I want to feel more connected to my emotions, to understand what drives me, and to make sense of the world.
Sometimes I feel confused by my emotions, behaviours, or the challenges I face.
If I can find space to heal, I can grow into the person I’m meant to be.
I feel stuck and shut out from education and work, and unsure how to take the next step.
Sometimes I feel isolated, especially now that school has ended.
I feel bored, restless, and under pressure to fill my time, but I am not sure how to begin.

Enable young people aged 16 to 25 with SEND, classified or identifying as NEET, by providing safe and inclusive support, to give them time to build confidence, improve wellbeing, and identify their strengths through person-centred life coaching, therapeutic physical activity, and imaginative learning. Encouraging introspective inquiry, personal growth, and stronger social connections.
If you are a young person 16+ who is experiencing challenges with everyday life
If you are a worried parent or carer of a young person and are feeling lost and lacking support
If you are a referring agency which supports young people
Thankfully, most of our children grow up feeling safe, supported, and valued. For others, childhood can be far less certain, shaped by disruption or emotional difficulty at times when stability matters most.
My own experience sits within the latter. Alongside many happy memories, there were as many periods of poverty, insecurity, and emotional neglect. When even the basic needs felt uncertain, i.e., heating, electricity and food, it affected my confidence, sense of self-worth, and engagement with education, eventually leading me to become NEET in my early teens.
Like many non-attenders, I found a connection outside of school. Looking back, I can see the resilience, steely determination, and courage that existed within that group, and still exist in the young people I meet and work with today. Many of my friends from back in the day have gone on to lead everyday lives. Sadly, some never managed to reconnect, which is a powerful reminder of how crucial early understanding and care can be.
For years, I masked the insecurities that had taken root and developed during my challenging childhood. Finding my way back took years of mistakes, bad choices and hard lessons. I was 35 when I completed my English and Maths functional skills, studied for my degree, and went on to gain my teaching and other qualifications.
My journey is what inspired The Get Go, because, for all the challenges I faced as a young person and as an adult (educational gaps and limited emotional intelligence) Resilience in the face of adversity, determination, and the courage to get up every day and face the world have always been within me. During the hardest moments, I was running on fumes; it was hard and very lonely.
I see the same steely qualities in the young people I meet and work with today. I have also seen the same harmful symptoms of educational gaps, masking, and looking in the wrong places for emotional support and a form of connection. Meaning in life. Something we all need. I do not want our young people to have to wait until they are 35 to get on the bus with the rest of us.
The time and energy spent trying to find answers to life's challenges on their own, through the often harmful, dangerous and painful process of trial and error, can be redirected towards building a stable and fulfilling future. Our world is changing rapidly, especially in understanding complex trauma and other neurodiverse conditions, and the long-term effects on people who may have been overlooked in the past.
There is an untapped pool of amazing, talented SEND & NEET young people who, with the type of support The Get Go offers, could be given the chance to remember and re-ignite the flame of their potential, grow, and overcome the social and psychological barriers holding them back from being part of the greater community.
The alternative is that they will eventually become lost in the system, a burden to it, or even disappear from it. We cannot let this continue.
As well as working with mainstream young people, my teaching practice and apprenticeship as an educator were shaped by working with young adults with SEND. It was during this period that I came to realise that many of the challenges I faced as a young person ran parallel with theirs: feelings of social exclusion, low confidence, and uncertainty about their place in the community, in the world. I also saw the same qualities: determination, resilience, and courage. It is important to add that both groups share a sense of humour and an ability to laugh in the face of adversity. But it is a humour born out of feelings of social exclusion and isolation, a mask.
The Get Go aims to provide young people, mainstream, SEND or anywhere in between, with a safe and secure place to pause, reset, and refocus. Supporting them in rebuilding confidence, filling educational gaps, refocusing, re-evaluating and exploring where they want to be in the world.
The Get Go is passionate about promoting and implementing the Social Disability Model and equal opportunities for all.

Instead, their words speak directly to you, offering a choice: "Remain where you are, or step into a journey that will demand courage, patience, and change."
